SURFING AND KITESURFING

Both surfing and kitesurfing are popular since Hengistbury tends to be blessed with some wind much of the time!

The best place to catch the waves is off the southern side where the groynes stop at Southbourne.

All surfers are however prohibited from launching or landing amongst the reed beds and SSSI on the Christchurch Harbour side.

KITE FLYING

Kite flying is permitted in a designated area only to prevent conflict with other users of the Head and preventing damage flora and fauna. Do not fly kites anywhere on the Head.
The designated area lies parallel to Broadway and Solent Car Park, close to the Hiker Café. Signs clearly mark out the area, which is also the only section of West Field to be mown short in summer.
Kites with a wingspan exceeding 3.5m and kite skaters are prohibited to minimize wildlife disturbance.
