HOW TO GET TO HENGISTBURY HEAD

Hengistbury Head is located at the eastern end of Bournemouth in Dorset and forms the southern peninsula of Christchurch Harbour, which can be clearly seen in this aerial view of the Head.

BY BICYCLE OR ON FOOT

From Bournemouth – if you are coming from Bournemouth, Boscombe or the Southbourne direction by bike or on foot, then the easiest way is to cycle or walk in an easterly direction on the beach promenade, which is both safe and very enjoyable. There are byelaws that restrict the speed of bikes to no more than 10mph, and in July and August bicycles may not be ridden on the promenade between 1000 and 1800. On those occasions you would need to cyde on Southbourne Overcliff Drive. Once you get to the end of the promenade, join the Southbourne Coast Road and you will see the Head in front of you.

From Christchurch - cycle down Stour Road and over Tuckton Bridge. At the Tuckton Roundabout, go straight across into Belle Vue Road. Broadway is the next left and the Head is at the end of Broadway. You can wallk the Stour Valley Way from Tuckton Bridge along the river bank and through the fields to the Head.
