SWIMMING /THE BEACH

The ‘rural’ beach at Hengistbury Head is not of the same style as the rest of Bournemouth’s beaches. It is much stonier and therefore not ideal for a day on the beach. In addition there are no facilities such as toilets and shops.
As with the rest of the Reserve a ‘take your litter home’ policy operates.
The beach does provide the best place to view the distinct sediment layers stretching from top to bottom of the cliff face. However the cliffs are very unstable as they are soft and you must never attempt to climb them or deface them in any way.

BARBEQUES

BBQ’s are strictly prohibited anywhere on the Head including the beach.

The frequency of fire is increased by BBQ’s because the vegetation is flammable especially when dry, and this can cause devastating damage to the wildlife and plants of the Head
The nearest dedicated hot coal bins are further along the promenade towards Southbourne.
